Sitting on 72 hectares of property, the old town is located adjacent to Fort Jesus in Mombasa. Its inhabitants are mixed races from the people who inhabited the Fort Jesus during its trade years including Arabs, Portuguese, Swahili and people of British descent.
The architecture of the town was also influenced by peoples who inhabited it. The town is composed of narrow streets and old buildings with curved ornament doors and balconies, collections that date back to the 18th century.
