The Mara is one of the most popular tourism destinations in Kenya, located in the Great Rift Valley, along the Tanzanian border. Nowhere in Africa is wildlife more abundant and you can therefore hardly miss to see the BIG 5 (Buffalo, Elephant, Leopard, Lion and Rhino). The Mara is home to some 95 species of mammals, amphibians and reptiles and over 400 bird species recorded on the reserve.
Wildebeests traverse its plains during their annual migration. This phenomenon which earns the Mara a spot as the eighth wonder of the world, starts in July proceeding to October. A magnificent sight to see. The landscape has grassy plains and rolling hills, and is crossed by the Mara and Talek Rivers. The area nearby is dotted with villages (enkangs) of the Maasai people.
