Set on 188 sqkm, on the floor of the Great Rift Valley, the park was created around Lake Nakuru. The Lake used to have an abundance of algae that attracted a great number of flamingos that flocked the shore. Other birds are also found in the park amounting to around 450 species including African fish eagle, Goliath heron, hamerkop, pied kingfisher and Verreaux' seagle.
Other wildlife include; warthogs, baboons, eastern black rhinos, southern white rhinos, waterbucks, Rothschild's giraffe, east African lions, cheetahs, leopards, and large sized pythons that inhabit the woodlands, etc.

Held annually at the Lake Nakuru National Park, this is the only time one gets to ride a bike at the park. The event attracts participants of all ages including children participate without fear of being attacked by wild animals following protection by the KWS armed guards.
The event was launched with an aim to raise funds in efforts to conserve the rhinos which are endangered species. It additionally raises awareness on the dangers posed by poaching.
