Standing at around 40 metres high, Kit Mikayi is a rock formation that means ‘the stone of the first wife’ in Dholuo language.
The myth behind the naming of the rocks is that; in earlier years an old man, Ngeso, fell passionately in love with the rock formation and whenever his friends went to his home to meet him, his wife would inform them that he has gone to his first wife, Mikayi (the rock formation). Further to the structure of this formation lies another myth explanation that represents the Luo polygamy culture with the first wife being Mikayi, further on the righthand side being the second wife, Nyachira, a third wife, Reru, and further in front a child, Simba.
The site is also a holy place.
