Farther down the Tanzanian Coast and less than 1km long, Fanjove is a private island run by the Selous Safari Company and one of the last places you can find the rare coconut crabs, which are amongst the largest crustaceans in the world, weighing an average 2.2kg with a 36 inch leg span.
Guests staying on the island share Fanjove with the abundant marine life only including and not limited to spinner dolphins, green turtles and humpback whales.
It is a pristine unadulterated paradise with only the 19th century lighthouse and some architectural remnants of a former fishing village hinting at previous human occupation.
