Overview

Zanzibar is an archipelago that sits in the Indian Ocean 16-31 miles off mainland Tanzania. The islands are a semi-autonomous part of Tanzania and are fondly called the Spice Isles for their historic cultivation and trade of spices. The archipelago is made up of numerous small islands and two large ones-Unguja (often referred to as Zanzibar) and Pemba Island.
